Jake Paul blasts UFC matchmaking whie defending Muhammad Ali Act
Jake Paul used the UFC’s latest matchmaking as an example of why the Muhammad Ali Act should remain untouched in boxing.
Since entering the combat sports space, Paul has been critical of the UFC’s business operations, particularly its fighter pay practices. In recent months, UFC CEO Dana White has been working to get the ball rolling with Zuffa Boxing. Paul has continued to raise his voice as the new boxing venture and its parent company, TKO, aim to add to, effectively changing, the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act.
The law exists to protect boxers’ rights from promoters and officials. Zuffa Boxing aims to change that with the addition of the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act, which would allow it to establish its own rankings and championship belts. With that, White has stated that the changes would create an easier path that fans would most want to see, similar to the UFC’s business model.
Thursday, White announced multiple fights for the first two numbered UFC events of 2026, which drew mixed reactions. In the main event of UFC 324, Justin Gaethje will take on Paddy Pimblett for the interim lightweight title. The co-main event will be a superfight in women’s MMA, as Kayla Harrison puts her bantamweight title on the line against returning UFC Hall of Famer Amanda Nunes. White also announced the main event of UFC 325, which will be a featherweight title rematch between Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes.
While each of those matchups is a solid fight, there has been criticism of each. Some believe No. 1 contender Arman Tsarukyan should have been in the interim title bout. Harrison vs. Nunes, being a co-main event behind an interim title, also drew ire. Others aren’t pleased with Lopes getting another title shot while there are other deserving contenders like Lerone Murphy or Movsar Evloev.
Paul used this matchmaking as a prime example of why TKO and Zuffa Boxing should keep their hands off the Muhammad Ali Act.
“They want to abolish the Muhammad Ali Act because they claim they want to give boxing the best fighting the best…so why are all the fans crying foul about these new UFC fights they announced?” Paul wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“And for sure Harrison Nunes should be its own main event.”
