UFC Fight Night 263 bonuses: Main event TKO, co-feature chaos lead four $50,000 winners
The UFC handed out four bonuses after Saturday’s card in Las Vegas, including one for a certain Knockout of the Year candidate.
After UFC Fight Night 263, four fighters picked up an extra $ 50,000 for their performances at the UFC Apex. Check out the winners below.
Performance of the Night: Donte Johnson
Donte Johnson’s UFC debut was a memorable one for many reasons. Johnson (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who typically disconnects his opponents from consciousness with heavy punches, went into his bag of tricks to score his first career submission. The Dana White’s Contender Series signee forced Sedriques Dumas (10-4 MMA, 3-4 UFC) to tap to a guillotine choke at 1:25 of Round 2, notching his first UFC win and his first extra $ 50,000 check.
Performance of the Night: Allan Nascimento
Allan Nascimento (22-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) faced a short-notice replacement in Cody Durden (17-9-1 MMA, 6-7-1 UFC), and made sure to keep the judges out of it. After a slow start to the fight in which Durden won on all three judges’ cards, Nascimento turned things around in Round 2 by slapping on an anaconda choke that his opponent couldn’t escape. The tap came midway through the round, extending Nascimento’s winning streak to four. For his efforts, he takes home his second UFC bonus.
Performance of the Night: Waldo Cortes-Acosta
The co-main event produced a very wild outcome. Ante Delija (26-7 MMA, 1-1 UFC) thought he won the fight by unloading a flurry of punches on Waldo Cortes-Acosta (15-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC), but an eye poke was discovered on replay. The referee never waved off the fight when he stepped between the two fighters. Deljia’s victorious celebration was halted. After a very confusing moment for all involved, the fight was eventually restarted when Cortes-Acosta said he could continue. Seconds later, Delija hit the canvas after Cortes-Acosta landed damaging punches. This time, the stoppage was official, and the celebration was on again, but for Cortes-Acosta. After the dust settled, it was a moment that earned Cortes-Acosta his first UFC bonus.
Performance of the Night: Steve Garcia
Steve Garcia (19-5 MMA, 8-2 UFC) made the most of his first UFC main event booking by pressuring David Onama (14-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) with offense from the start. “Mean Machine” didn’t rush anything, but his steady offense kept Onama on the back foot, and soon enough, he cracked Onama with a big shot that led to the finish at 3:34 of the first round. Garcia’s winning streak extends to seven, and he pockets his fourth bonus of his hot run.
