Disc Golf weekend returns to Ox Bow Park

DUNLAP — The Elkhart County Parks will host “Elkhart County’s Biggest Disc Golf Weekend” from Friday through Sunday at Ox Bow County Park.

It will be the second year of the large three-day event held at the Flying Disc Sanctuary, co-hosted with Maple City Disc Golf and sponsored by Innova Disc Golf.

“This three-day event will give players in the region the opportunity to experience the updates the park has accomplished the past few years, while meeting old and new disc golf friends,” said Jason Samuel, Maple City Disc Golf volunteer. Samuel graciously gave hundreds of hours of volunteer time toward the Ox Bow Flying Disc Sanctuary and is an advocate for disc golf throughout the region and state. He leads dozens of tournaments and leagues each year.

The event will kick-off Friday with the Summer Sizzler event, a PDGA C-Tier One Round competition that will feature a flexible start time for all who are pre-registered.

On Saturday, The Classic at Ox Bow will be held which is a PDGA C/B Tier two-round singles event with the tee off beginning in the morning.

Saturday evening, from 5-9 p.m., the local community can join in the fun at the Black Maple Shelter with a music event featuring the band, The Erly.

A food truck, Goshen Brewing Company Beer Tent, disc golf games, along with disc golf-related displays and vendors will also be available to players and non-players alike.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the evening concert which begins at 6 p.m. and will feature a Grateful Dead set.

The weekend will conclude on Sunday with the Dog Days Afternoon Doubles, which will be a PDGA C-Tier doubles event beginning at 2 p.m.

The tournaments require pre-registration and fees, but the live concert on Saturday evening is free to the public with a $ 3 per vehicle entry fee.
