Blue Jay tennis opens season with pair of wins in Minot
Aug. 22—MINOT — The first ever match Isaac Mimong coached was a win.
So was the second match.
Under the direction of the first year head coach, Jamestown High School's boys tennis team opened up the year with a pair of wins at the Minot Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Jays defeated Legacy 3-2 and Bismarck High 4-1. Results from the Jays' match against Mandan were unavailable when The Jamestown Sun went to press.
The matches against Legacy were as tough as they come.
Jamestown's No. 1 Luke LeFevre came back from a 6-2 loss in the first set to win his match against Connor Svihovec. LeFevre won the match 2-6, 6-2, 10-7.
Braxton Burkett also faltered in his first match, dropping the first set 6-4 but came roaring back to win the match 4-6, 7-5, 10-4. Both Burkett and LeFevre were state tournament qualifiers for the Jays in 2024.
Against Bismarck High Aden Oettle got his first win of the season, defeating the Demons' Max Chouinard 6-1, 4-6, 12-10, At No. 2 doubles Ravi Bansal and Rajen Bansal, worked together to beat Andrew Wanner and James Wanner 6-2, 6-2.
Jamestown will continue play in Minot on Saturday and will host its first match of the year on Tuesday against Bismarck High. Play is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
