Former Sanderson Farms champion WDs from this week's PGA Tour event

Peter Malnati has referred to Jackson, Mississippi, as his second home in the past, and has raved about the place he stays while in town.

One of Malnati's two PGA Tour victories came at the Country Club of Jackson during the 2015 Sanderson Farms Championship, an event that appears destined to leave town after this year's playing. Malnati shot a 5-under-par 67 on the final day to top William McGirt and David Toms for the title that year. He earned himself a PGA Tour exemption through 2018 as a result.

But Malnati will not have a chance to catch lightning in a bottle again in the small Southern city, as he withdrew from the tournament on Thursday, prior to his opening round of play.

"I feel like I was literally adopted by Jackson, Mississippi, before I won because a family that lives here on the golf course, they let me stay with them that first year," the 38-year-old Malnati, who lives in Knoxville, Tennessee, said during the 2024 event. "They feel like family now. It's really cool to see."

According to the PGA Tour, Malnati was forced to withdraw with a chest injury. Scott Piercy has replaced him in the field.

Malnati's other Tour victory came at the 2024 Valspar Championship.
