Steve Garcia on David Onama: 'I have more of a finish streak, he has more of a win streak'

Steve Garcia argues why his recent run is more impressive than David Onama's.

Streaking featherweights Garcia (18-5 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and Onama (14-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) will square off in the UFC Fight Night 263 main event on Nov. 1 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Garcia is riding a a six-fight winning streak with with five finishes. Meanwhile, Onama has won his past four in a row, and six of his past seven.

"If you look at my history and my streak that I've had, I've been able to finish people within the first two rounds," Garcia told MMA Junkie Radio. "It can be a little gritty, but for the most part, I've been kind of able to make it look a little bit cleaner.

"You look at Onama's win streak – I have more of a finish streak, he has more of a win streak. It only turned to a win streak because I didn't finish (Calvin) Kattar. If you compare the two, he's had a lot more grittier, harder fights when it comes to trying to get the win, where mine's kind of been more with ease, you can say."

Garcia will headline his first UFC event, but explains why he's more than prepared for it.

"I've always told my coaches I want to train five rounds," Garcia said. "I want to be a main eventer. I want to make sure I'm ready for the title fight when it comes, so I've always made sure that I always trained for five rounds. I've always been prepared for five rounds. I have a fight or two of five rounds already in my past. We've done well in those situations, so I definitely feel like we'll be ready for this, and it was only a matter of time of it happening. I'm ready. I'm excited to go out there and be the guy that everybody is waiting to see."
