Mitchell's Cooper Star earns second place in Yankton tourney
Nov. 10—YANKTON, S.D. — Mitchell's Cooper Star, who competed at the Lewis and Clark Indoor Tennis Classic Nov. 7-9, earned a second-place finish at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center.
Star, a sophomore boys tennis player at Mitchell, claimed a first-round bye as the top seed and completed the weekend with a 2-1 record in the 16-and-under singles bracket. Star defeated Abe Hanson and Conner Mitzel in the quarterfinals and semifinals before dropping the final to Sioux Falls' Rhys Nielsen on Nov. 9.
Mitchell's ninth-grader Liam Schiefen also participated in the boys 14-and-under bracket. He went 3-2 on the weekend, defeating Cole Petterson and Jackson Hahn on his way to the consolation finals, but dropped the final match to Jason Yoon on Nov. 9.
Mitchell girls tennis sixth-graders Madison Schiefen and Ellie Reindl also competed in the girls 12-and-under bracket.
