UFC 322 bonuses: Four consecutive KOs at MSG lead to $50K each
The UFC handed out four bonuses after Saturday's card in New York, and they came to winners who had four consecutive knockout finishes on the card.
After UFC 322, four fighters picked up an extra $ 50,000 for their performances at Madison Square Garden. Check out the winners below.
Performance of the Night: Bo Nickal
Bo Nickal (8-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) was supposed to be on the main card in a middleweight fight against Rodolfo Vieira (11-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) at one point before their bout was dropped off the pay-per-view. After 10 minutes, that seemed like the right call with Nickal dominating. But in the final frame, he landed a hellacious head kick that put Vieira into the proverbial shadow realm to close out the prelims.
Performance of the Night: Benoit Saint Denis
Benoit Saint Denis (16-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) needed just 16 seconds to take out Beneil Dariush (23-7-1 MMA, 17-7-1 UFC) to open the main card. Dariush missed weight, too, so Saint Denis got an extra 20 percent of his show money, which likely is pretty hefty given Dariush’s time with the promotion. The finish was the fastest of Saint Denis’ career – and also the quickest loss in the career of Dariush, who has dropped three of four, all in the first round.
Performance of the Night: Carlos Prates
Carlos Prates (23-7 MMA, 6-1 UFC), in the first round, looked like maybe he was suffering the effects of a regular smoker. Then in the second, he smoked former welterweight champion Leon Edwards (22-6 MMA, 14-5 UFC) and became the first person to knock the Brit out. Edwards now has lost three straight fights. Prates called for a welterweight title shot after the win, which gave him bonuses in all six of his UFC victories.
Performance of the Night: Michael Morales
Michael Morales (19-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) watched Carlos Prates pick up a big win and call for a title shot. Then he took out Sean Brady (18-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) in the first round to stay unbeaten at welterweight. And despite Prates’ big win, it could be Morales with the most momentum to work toward a crack at new champ Islam Makhachev.
