Pair of PGA Tour players jump to LIV Golf; Dustin Johnson re-signs with Saudi league

LIV Golf has signed one-time PGA Tour winner Thomas Detry and winless veteran Byeong Hun "Ben" An to its roster.

Detry, 33, has been long rumored to jump to the Saudi-backed league, given his childhood ties to LIV member Thomas Pieters, and several outlets reported earlier this month that Detry was planning on defecting. Currently the No. 58 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Detry is coming off a career year and became the first Belgian to win on the PGA Tour when he captured the WM Phoenix Open by seven shots.

Detry will join Pieters on Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces club. LIV has also added Victor Perez and Laurie Canter this offseason.

An, 34, is joining the newly rebranded Korean Golf Club and will immediately become its captain. His teammates are Younghan Song, Minkyu Kim and Danny Lee. An has five professional wins, but none on the PGA Tour. His two DP World Tour victories include a playoff triumph over Tom Kim in the 2024 Genesis Championship. In a Wednesday afternoon post on X, An wrote, "Over the past decade on the PGA Tour, I have been able to fulfill the dreams I've held since childhood. I am truly grateful for every moment I've spent on the field and for all the incredible support I've received along the way.

"However, following the conclusion of the 2025 season, I felt it was time for a new chapter and a fresh challenge in my life. As such, I have decided to continue my professional career with LIV Golf, taking on the role of Captain for Korean Golf Club.

"I have always been passionate about supporting junior golfers and the next generation of players. While this is just the beginning, I want to help these athletes realize their dreams on the world stage."

Additionally, LIV announced that Johnson had signed a multi-year deal to stay with LIV. Johnson was the first big name to publicly jump to LIV when it launched it 2022. He’s won three times on the circuit; however, the 41-year-old’s game has seen a dip at the major championships, missing the cut in six of his last nine appearances and failing to post a top-20 finish.

The news comes in the wake of five-time major winner Brooks Koepka leaving LIV despite a year left on his contract to return to the PGA Tour. The tour announced that Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cam Smith have a month to accept a similar offer. Johnson did not receive the offer as his last major win did not come in the LIV era. LIV Golf’s 2026 season begins in Saudi Arabia on Feb. 7.
