Cameron Norrie is set to enter the Australian Open as a seeded player, currently sitting at No. 26 in the ATP rankings.

He finished last season strong, making a run to the Metz Open final and picking up an impressive win over Carlos Alcaraz at the Paris Masters.

Norrie also put together some solid results throughout the year, reaching his first fourth round at Roland Garros and making it back to the Wimbledon quarter-finals.

With Jack Draper pulling out, Norrie is now Britain’s top-ranked male heading into Melbourne, and he spoke about how he’s feeling before taking on another Grand Slam campaign.

Norrie began his 2026 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland, opening with a win over Hugo Gaston before falling to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

After wrapping up his time at the ATP 250 event, Norrie gave an update on how he’s feeling physically ahead of the Australian Open.

He continued: “I’ve already played three three-setters against good players and tested my level. So I feel really good. I feel like I got enough matches. I’m a guy typically who needs matches to really feel at my best.

“I did that. It would have been nice to go deeper in Auckland, but Giovanni did well in that match to get out of trouble and do that, but definitely a lot of good sets, a lot of close sets, and a lot of different kind of game styles.”

Norrie also said he’s fitter and stronger than he was during his last appearance at the tournament when he lost to Matteo Berrettini in the first round.

He added: “You know, high expectations. Everyone is kind of reset, so I just want to go and play and enjoy my tennis like I did at the back end of the year.”

Norrie’s best run at Melbourne Park came in 2024 when he made it through to the fourth round with wins over Juan Pablo Varillas, Giulio Zeppieri and Casper Ruud.

The Brit eventually fell short against Alexander Zverev after five gruelling sets were decided by a final set tie-breaker.

Cameron Norrie opens Australian Open with favourable first round draw

Norrie kicks off his Australian Open campaign against Benjamin Bonzi, who currently sits outside the top 100 in the ATP rankings.

The Brit’s path includes three other seeds, but he avoids both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner early on. If Norrie progresses, he could face Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev or Francisco Cerundolo before the later stages of the tournament.

Norrie has yet to defeat Zverev in six meetings but has a positive record against Rublev with three wins and one victory over Cerundolo.

He won’t have to face any seeded players until at least the third round.

If Norrie moves past Bonzi, he’ll then play either Emilio Nava or Kyrian Jacquet in the next round. With only first-round points to defend from last year, this draw could set him up for a strong start in Melbourne.
