For the “2026 is the new 2016” social media trend, former professional tennis player Eugenie Bouchard had an easy pick of pics. For the stunning athlete, 2016 was the year she appeared in the iconic Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

And she looked absolutely stunning in a strappy orange bikini with a very skimpy rearview.

“2016: lots of bikinis, selfies, & one very bad decision (swipe to end),” she captioned the Thursday, January 15 Instagram share. The 14-image carousel post was packed with bikini pics — and also selfies with Justin Trudeau and Celine Dion. (The last photo she referred to in the caption showed the tennis player with half her head shaved.)

“How did all of these happen in 2016 😂,” asked one commenter.

“🤣🤣 strappy bikini is so 2016 coreeeee,” said another.

“I Love You More. Than Yesterday,” raved a third.

“The sideshave was iconic !!! ☺️💕,” added a fourth.

“Jesus try not to break the internet,” begged a fifth.

Bouchard retired from professional tennis this past summer after a successful career, once ranking No. 5 in the world. She won hearts when she gave an emotional farewell speech after her final match, at the National Bank Open in Montreal, where she grew up. The athlete has since turned to pickleball.

The Canadian’s peak year was 2014, when she reached the Australian Open semifinals at age 20 and the finals at Wimbledon. She was the first Canadian to play for the country in a Grand Slam singles final. Prior to that, she was the 20212 Wimbledon junior champion and the 2013 WTA Newcomer of the Year.
