The Australian Open has now entered week two, with Iga Swiatek among the stars still in with a chance of success.

In fact, the top seeds have stolen the limelight at the hard-court tournament in Melbourne, where Swiatek is chasing her maiden title.

She is a six-time Grand Slam champion, and would achieve the career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open.

But next up in her quest for success is current WTA Finals champion Elena Rybakina, who she meets in the quarterfinals.

Iga Swiatek says men play longer rallies than women

Ahead of that match, Swiatek discussed a major difference between men’s and women’s tennis when asked what she likes about facing spin on the courts.

She responded: “I guess, I don’t know, I just always felt that since I’m playing like that, I understand their game a bit better.

“Also, I don’t know, I just feel like tennis makes more sense when players, like, build the rally more. I don’t know.

“I guess also, like, this is what is different with men’s tennis and women’s tennis, that guys play longer rallies. Sometimes in women’s tennis it’s just one shot, and that’s it.

“Yeah, I don’t know, it’s just how I’ve been raised. Also, most of the tennis that I watched was Rafa [Nadal], so I also enjoy watching it as well, so yeah. I don’t know.”

Iga Swiatek can match Rafael Nadal feat at the Australian Open

While Swiatek is well short of her idol’s stunning career feats, she has been impressing at such a young age, just as Nadal did.

He claimed 22 Grand Slam titles during his phenomenal career, but represents the youngest male in the Open Era to complete the career Grand Slam.

Nadal achieved the feat at the age of 24, which is fittingly the same age as Swiatek is now as she eyes Melbourne glory.

And she’s not the only player who can get over the line at this Grand Slam, with Nadal’s fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz also able to complete the feat if he lifts the trophy in Melbourne.
