Aryna Sabalenka suffered further heartbreak at the Australian Open, losing the final to Elena Rybakina.

Rybakina defeated Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, claiming her second career Grand Slam title.

She also won Wimbledon in 2022, with the Kazakhstan ace having also lost the 2023 Australian Open final to Sabalenka.

The WTA number one has enjoyed huge success at the Grand Slam throughout her career, and has now reached each of the last four finals.

Aryna Sabalenka hit the most winners at the Australian Open

Sabalenka, however, has won two and lost two of those finals, lifting the trophy in 2023 and 2024 before falling short in 2025 and 2026.

She beat Qinwen Zheng after that maiden title against Rybakina, before losing to Madison Keys and now the Kazakhstan star.

Despite Rybakina lifting the trophy in Melbourne, it was indeed Sabalenka who hit the most winners at the hard-court Grand Slam.

According to OptaAce, the runner-up hit 207, well ahead of the 182 that Rybakina managed en route to the title.

Iga Swiatek finished third with 111, followed by figures of 108 and 103 from Elina Svitolina and Amanda Anisimova respectively.

Australian Open champion Carlos Alcaraz hits the most winners

While it will be of very little consolation to Sabalenka, who would much rather have lifted the trophy, it should give her confidence going forward.

She’s clearly still a major threat to the entire WTA Tour, even with a frustrating 4-4 record in Grand Slam finals.

Incidentally, a very different scenario played out on the ATP Tour, with Carlos Alcaraz hitting the most winners.

As per OptaAce, the Australian Open champion led the way with 284, closely followed by the 280 of Alexander Zverev.

Jannik Sinner finished third with 257, followed by American duo Learner Tien on 226 and Ben Shelton on 215.
