BNP Paribas Open announces player entry field ahead of 2026 event
The attention of the tennis world now shifts to Indian Wells.
And if the BNP Paribas Open player entry list is any indication, the annual event could be just as electric as last month's unforgettable Australian Open.
The entry list, which was announced by the tournament Wednesday, includes all of the top 75 men's and women's players in the world. The player draws will be stacked.
Maybe we get a Novak Djokovic rematch with top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz or a rematch between the iconic 24-time Grand Slam champion and second-ranked Jannik Sinner. You'd also have to grab your popcorn for the potential Alcaraz rematch with fourth-ranked Alexander Zverev, who faced each other in a dramatic, must-watch semifinal in Melbourne.
On the women's side, there's potential for an Elena Rybakina rematch against top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka. Rybakina, you may remember, topped Sabalenka in the Australian Open final.
The BNP Paribas Open runs form March 1-15 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Tickets are on sale now on the tournament's website and at the on-site box office.
Reigning champions Jack Draper and Mirra Andreeva are expected back to potentially recapture the magic of last year. Draper, a 24-year-old from Britain who is ranked 13, claimed the biggest title of his young career last March, knocking off Alcaraz in the semifinals and Holger Rune in the final. He missed the Australian Open with an arm injury.
Andreeva’s 2026 title run proved to be just as magical with the teenage phenom becoming the youngest BNP Paribas Open champion since Serena Williams in 1999. She returns to the desert ranked seventh.
Iga Świątek, Naomi Osaka and Paula Badosa are among the big names and returning champions also on the entry list this year. Men's returning champions on the list include Taylor Fritz and Cameron Norrie.
Sinner is set to make his return to Indian Wells after missing the 2025 event during a suspension. Sinner will eye an elusive first Indian Wells title having reached the semifinal in 2023 and 2024.
No American woman has captured the Indian Wells title since Serena Williams in 2001, and a talented group of top-ranked stars will be looking to break that drought in 2026. Amanda Anisimova is the top-ranked American on the women’s side after soaring up the rankings to third last month. She’ll be joined by two-time Grand Slam champion and fifth-ranked Coco Gauff and sixth-ranked Jessica Pegula as the Americans with the best chance of breaking the title drought in the desert.
On the American men’s side, ninth-ranked Ben Shelton joins Fritz as the top American players dreaming of a title run in Indian Wells. Tommy Paul (22nd) and Frances Tiafoe (30th) round out the top four American men.
Djokovic will be aiming for a sixth BNP Paribas Open title. He is currently tied with Roger Federer for the most titles at Indian Wells, with five. Djokovic (38) can also become the oldest player to win a title here. Federer won at 35.
For Alcaraz, he can become the youngest player to win three Indian Wells singles titles. The 22-year-old won in 2023 and 2024 before Draper broke through and won last year.
