Alexandra Eala proves her stunning popularity again as she wins on her Indian Wells debut
Alexandra Eala continues to showcase her popularity after winning her opening match at Indian Wells.
World number 32 Eala is making her debut at Indian Wells this year, where she started out in the second round.
The 31st seed received a bye in round one, before defeating Dayana Yastremska 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 after two hours and 43 minutes.
And along with the fans who flocked to Indian Wells to see her in action, many more have taken to YouTube to view her opening match.
Almost 500,000 fans watch Alexandra Eala’s match on YouTube
The WTA YouTube channel has uploaded highlights of many round two matches, including Eala versus Yastremska.
And at the time of writing, the video has amassed a mammoth 482k views, well ahead of every other highlight video.
For context, the video highlights of world number one Aryna Sabalenka playing against Himeno Sakatsume has 101k views.
Coco Gauff’s win over Kamilla Rakhimova has amassed 97k, while Emma Raducanu defeating Anastasia Zakharova has 107k.
It highlights Eala’s stunning popularity, which is made all the more surprising given that she has yet to win a WTA title.
Alexandra Eala vs Coco Gauff could surpass second round total
Intriguingly, Eala has now earned an Indian Wells third round meeting with Gauff, which is a match that could attract even more attention.
The Filipina star has a huge fanbase despite her brief career so far, with her followers desperate for that maiden title.
Meanwhile, Gauff has a huge following of her own, and has quickly become one of the biggest superstars in women’s sports, not just tennis.
There is also a very intriguing storyline behind the match, after the American blew her WTA rival away in Dubai.
They met in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships just last month, where Gauff hammered Eala 6-0, 6-2.
She needed just one hour and seven minutes to secure the comfortable win, for which Eala and her fans will now be eyeing big revenge at Indian Wells.
