Carlos Ulberg knocks out Jiri Prochazka in UFC 327 main event

The vacant light heavyweight championship was on the line in Saturday's UFC 327 main event at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

Former champion Jiri Prochazka faced No. 3 ranked Carlos Ulberg in the fight card's main event. Alex Pereira vacated the 205-pound championship to move up to the heavyweight division in a quest to become the first fighter to ever win three UFC divisional championships. His departure left a vacancy at the top of the division.

Prochazka entered the bout riding a two-fight winning streak. His only octagon loses are to Pereira. Ulberg made the walk to the octagon on an incredible nine-fight winning streak. His lone career loss came in March 2021.

Ulberg took the center of the cage and connected with an outside leg kick. Prochazka bounced on the outside moving in and out of the pocket. He pressed forward with a right hand but Ulberg slipped out of distance. Ulberg connected with a leg kick that got Prochazka's attention. Prochazka missed with left and Ulberg fired off a right hand. Ulberg looks to have injured his right leg. Prochazka pressured. Ulberg stood directly in front of Prochazka. Ulberg had difficulty standing on his leg. Prochazka closed the distance and walked right Into a check hook. Prochazka crumbled to the canvas. Ulberg seized the moment and finished with hammer fists on the ground.

The official time of the knockout was 3:45 of the opening round, and the UFC has a new light heavyweight champion.
