Alessandro Costa: Latest UFC bonus-winning TKO no accident
LAS VEGAS – Alessandro Costa met the media Saturday after his win over Stewart Nicoll at UFC Fight Night 272.
Costa (15-5 MMA, 3-3 UFC) put Nicoll (8-3 MMA, 0-3 UFC) away courtesy of a brutal liver shot on the prelims at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. Afterward, the Brazilian flyweight said the punch was all part of the plan.
"That was something we worked on throughout the camp," Costa said through a translator at his post-fight news conference. "My coach is always stressing this: You need to move around, you need to use your footwork. It's something we're always going to improve in our training.
"What you saw tonight was exactly what we planned."
Costa picked up a $ 100,000 post-fight bonus for Performance of the Night. Bonuses are nothing new for the 30-year-old. He now has one in all three of his UFC wins. But this one was the $ 100K variety. His first two came in 2023 and 2024.
"The last bonus, I was able to help out my parents and get them a house," Costa said. "Imagine with money like this (in the new bonus structure). We can help out a lot of people."
