Ben Griffin explains the funny—but good—reason he had to miss the Hero World Challenge

Ben Griffin's great year got even better over the weekend as the 29-year-old got married. However, a scheduling glitch caused him to miss an opportunity to make his golf season even better.

Griffin's wedding date forced him to miss playing in the Hero World Challenge, one of the easiest ways to earn a nice paycheck—and world ranking points—if you're a pro golfer. Easy, that is, if you can get into the exclusive 20-person event hosted by Tiger Woods in the Bahamas.

As Griffin explained to Front Office Sports, the Hero wasn't even on his radar when wedding plans were being made. In fact, he had his sights set much, much lower when considering the golf schedule.

"If I have a bad year, I'm gonna have to go to Q School," Griffin told Front Office Sports.

So, instead, he made sure to keep his fall open to give him as many chances to keep his PGA Tour card. And to leave later in December open for Q School finals. Of course, he didn't need any of that as he won three times, earned a spot on the Ryder Cup team, and is nominated for PGA Tour Player of the Year.

“It’s a bummer to not be able to play in the Hero,” Griffin added. “But I’m honestly so excited.”

Good answer, Ben. Besides, keep playing like this and there's always next year.
