Boys tennis roundup: NLS comes home with 2 victories

May 11—FERGUS FALLS — The New London-Spicer boys tennis team earned a couple of wins at a triangular in Fergus Falls on Saturday.

NLS beat the host Otters 7-0 and defeated East Grand Forks 6-1.

The Fergus Falls sweep was done in straight sets at all seven spots for the Wildcats. Perhaps the closest match came at No. 3 doubles. Oden Hanson and Quinn Wenke beat Isaiah Ibarra and Hudson Emerson 6-4, 6-1.

In the East Grand Forks match, NLS swept the singles and also won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

At No. 4 singles, the Wildcats' Coleman Davis beat Jacob Koval 4-6, 6-0, 12-10. NLS also earned a tough victory at No. 3 doubles. Oden Hanson and Quinn Wenke beat the Green Wave's Tyler Gemar and Kyler Berg 7-6 (4), 7-5.

NLS competes in a triangular against Foley and Minnewaska at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Foley.

Benson picked up its second victory of the day with the win at Pipestone.

The Braves swept the singles and claimed victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

Benson's Alex Carlson at No. 1, Andrea Beqaraj at No. 2 and Bence Banoczky at No. 3 all won in straight sets. Brandon Sondag at No. 4 won by default.

The Braves host Luverne in the Section 3A quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Benson.

Benson won five matches in straight sets and two by default for the victory at Luverne.

Andrea Bequaraj at No. 2, Bence Banoczky at No. 3 and Brooks Groinus at No. 4 didn't surrender a single point in singles.

The Braves' No. 1 doubles team of Carson Petrak and Joey Wilcox won 6-0, 6-0 over Christopher Severns and Ethan Van Batavia.

Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd went undefeated in the singles in its win at Pipestone.

All of LQPV/DB's singles players won each of their two matches, as did its Nos. 2 and 3 doubles teams on Saturday.

Pipestone's one point came in a victory at No. 1 doubles.

LQPV/DB plays Yellow Medicine East in the Section 3A quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Granite Falls.

Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd won five matches in straight sets and two more by default in its victory at Luverne.

Brody Bothun led LQPV/DB's singles players at No. 3. He beat Austin Sandbulte, 6-0, 6-0.

For LQPV/DB's doubles teams, Broady Nelson and Hudson Giese won 6-0, 6-0 against Christopher Severns and Ethan Van Batavia.
