Carlos Alcaraz reacts to 300th career win after reaching Monte Carlo semi-finals
Carlos Alcaraz has become a regular record-breaker on the ATP Tour, and he added another entry to his growing list of achievements this week.
It’s not that anyone was shocked to see him do it. The way he dismantled Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-0 showed just how sharp he is right now. He spotted his chance and grabbed it without hesitation.
Bublik’s unique style can throw players off, but Alcaraz stayed composed throughout. Once he settled into the match, there was only ever going to be one outcome.
Carlos Alcaraz joins John McEnroe with 300th career win
Before Alcaraz, only two players in the history of men’s tennis had reached 300 wins this quickly. He got there after beating Bublik, becoming just the third to do it.
It took him 367 matches to reach that number. Jimmy Connors needed 365 matches, while Rod Laver managed it in just 355.
McEnroe also hit the milestone in 367 matches. Rafael Nadal and Boris Becker were close behind, reaching it in 373 and 374 matches respectively.
Alcaraz himself has admitted he expects Jannik Sinner to take over as world number one soon. But this achievement is another highlight for a player whose career is still very much on the rise.
Alcaraz shares thoughts after beating Bublik at Monte Carlo
After his win over Bublik, Alcaraz looked genuinely pleased when speaking on court. And after being told about his latest milestone, he was clearly happy but stayed focused on what lies ahead.
He spoke about the match, saying: “Yeah, first of all, I think I started very well at the start of the match. I just had points to be two breaks up in the first set. Then all of a sudden, I just lost a little bit the feeling of the ball.”
“But yeah, after that he just pulled off great shots and great games. And I just had to run from side to side.”
“I tried to defend my best and I think I just saved a few games that then gave me a lot of confidence coming into the match again and then playing aggressive and all that stuff.”
“And I would say like just play a great and solid match against him, that is probably a player that you don’t know what’s going to be next, but just happy to get through and playing another semi-final here.”
