Carlos Ulberg won't hesitate to 'make the kill' on Dominick Reyes at UFC Fight Night 260
Carlos Ulberg will be ready to show all of himself against Dominick Reyes at UFC Fight Night 260.
Ulberg (11-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) enters the first main event of his career Saturday against former title challenger Reyes (15-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia (ESPN+), and it could be a defining moment in his career.
With eight straight victories in the light heavyweight division, Ulberg could be one win away from getting his first crack at UFC gold. He knows as much, and he won't let it pass him by.
"It's a big opportunity for me," Ulberg told MMA Junkie. "I'll take it with both arms, grab it, and make a big thing of it. Come (Saturday) night, I'll show the world."
Ulberg, No. 6 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie light heavyweight rankings, might be fighting down against No. 9-ranked Reyes, but it's still a fight that's going to lead him forward. Reyes has proven his worth inside the octagon and is on a three-fight winning streak, and his recent career resurgence is something that commands the utmost admiration.
"He's done himself very well to get himself where he is," Ulberg said. "I do pay my respects to him. Respect is given where it's due. Going in there, that's all I have for him, is the respect. Hopefully, after the fight, we get to share a beer or something."
Ulberg, 34, is less proven on paper than Reyes, 35, entering their showdown. He hasn't competed in a five-round MMA fight before, let alone on this stage where he is the A-side on the marquee.
He claims to be ready for anything this fight presents him, however, be it a quick finish or a blood-and-guts war.
"(I'm) technical, but when it comes to the nitty gritty, I know that I have heart within me," Ulberg said. "If it comes down to the five rounders and we have to throw some leather and there's a lot of blood and missing teeth, then so be it. We'll have to make the kill."
