Edgar Chairez vs. Alessandro Costa added to Noche UFC

This year's Noche UFC card continues to take shape.

The UFC has added a flyweight bout between Mexico's Edgar Chairez and Brazil's Alessandro Costa to its annual celebration of Mexican Independence, which is set for Sept. 13 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. MMA Junkie was informed of the fight booking by multiple sources, who requested anonymity since the UFC has yet to make an announcement.

Chairez (12-6 MMA, 2-2 UFC), who's fought in both Noche UFC events prior, returns for the third installment. The Entram Gym product is looking to build momentum off his submission won over CJ Vergara last March at a UFC Fight Night event in Mexico City. Prior to that, he lost a close unanimous decision to Joshua Van, who's expected to challenge for the UFC flyweight title against champion Alexandre Pantoja.

Costa, who's Brazil born but trains out of Puebla, Mexico alongside Diego Lopes at Lobo Gym and Brazilian Warriors, is also looking to string wins together. He's coming off a TKO win over Kevin Borjas in May 2024, which got him back in the win column after losing to former UFC title challenger Steve Erceg in November 2023. Costa was scheduled to fight Matt Schnell last September, but had to withdraw from the fight due to injury.

Below is the updated lineup for Noche UFC:

  • Diego Lopes vs. Jean Silva
  • Rafa Garcia vs. Jared Gordon
  • Rob Font vs. Raul Rosas Jr.
  • Edgar Chairez vs. Alessandro Costa
