Jack Della Maddalena issues first statement after UFC 322 loss
Jack Della Maddalena has broken his post-UFC 322 silence, though he hasn’t a whole lot to say publicly quite yet.
On Thursday, Della Maddalena (18-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) released his first statement since Saturday’s unanimous decision title loss to Islam Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) at Madison Square Garden in New York.
“Thanks to those always supporting,” Della Maddalena wrote on Instagram. “Islam is one of the greats and deserved to win. I will learn and move forward.”
Della Maddalena, 29, struggled to get off his back in what was his first attempt at a successful UFC title defense. For the vast majority of the fight, he was smothered by Makhachev. The defeat was his first in the UFC and snapped an 18-bout winning streak.
