Jan Blachowicz likes Alex Pereira's chances of knocking out Jon Jones
Alex Pereira has Jan Blachowicz’s full support for a heavyweight move.
Blachowicz was the one to welcome Pereira to light heavyweight, where he was edged out in a split decision loss at UFC 291. Pereira would go on to have great success, capturing the UFC light heavyweight title and defending it three times. He was dethroned by Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313, but regained his belt by knocking him out in their rematch at UFC 320.
Now, Pereira (13-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) has goals of conquering a third division by going up to heavyweight.
“I would like to see him against Jon Jones or Aspinall, but Aspinall’s got the problem with the eye,” Blachowicz told Home of Fight of Pereira. “I would like to see him at heavyweight. What he’s done at 205 is amazing. Congrats to him. It’s a very nice journey. I’m jealous – in a good way. I’m a big fan, so I’d like to see him at heavyweight. But also, we’ve got a couple of good fighters still at 205. So we will see.”
Despite Jon Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) no longer holding the UFC heavyweight title, “Poatan” is still interested in that fight. According to Pereira, it likely won’t happen at the White House, but Blachowicz gave his prediction should the matchup materialize.
“I think that he can do it,” Blachowicz said of Pereira beating Jones. “Pereira has knockout punch power, so he can finish this fight before time. Maybe at the White House they will make it.”
