LIV Golf team championship to return to The Cardinal in 2026
LIV Golf will be back in Michigan in 2026.
The tour announced it will play its season-ending team championship event for the second straight year at The Cardinal at Saint John's Resort in Plymouth Township. The Aramco LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship is scheduled for Aug. 27-30.
The four-day schedule is a change for the 2026 event, as LIV Golf previously announced a shift from three to four rounds for its tournaments. Also new for 2026 is a title sponsor. Aramco is a petroleum and natural gas company majority owned by the Saudi Arabian government. Aramco is also a title sponsor for LIV's stop in Singapore, scheduled for March.
The 2025 tournament was won by Legion XIII in a playoff with the foursome of Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Caleb Surratt and Tom McKibbin each earning $ 1.4 million for their victory. Beyond golf, the weekend also featured concerts from Imagine Dragons and Swedish House Mafia and fan activities throughout the weekend.
The Cardinal, in its second year since opening as a reimainged 18-hole championship course in place of a former 27-hole layout, sits about 30 minutes from downtown Detroit in the metro Detroit suburbs. The Free Press in 2025 named it the No. 1 public golf course in Wayne County and it held up to a test from some of the game's best players.
Fan turnout at Saint John's seemed decent for LIV, which formed as a rival in 2022 to the longstanding PGA Tour. LIV is controversially backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.
