Marc Ratner: UFC may self-regulate White House card due to 'federal land'

Marc Ratner, the UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, has shared an interesting new detail about how the much-discussed UFC White House event will come to fruition.

Ratner, who has been with the UFC for 20 years after a 14-year stint as Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), has revealed the event will not be regulated by the District of Columbia Combat Sports Commission, which has overseen procedure for the promotion's previous visits to Washington in 2011 and 2019.

That's because the White House property is not located on state land, Ratner revealed.

"The White House is federal land," Ratner told MMA Junkie in an exclusive interview. "The Parks & Recreation (department) are the ones who run it. We're talking. We need to find out exactly what the perameters are. I'll be involved for sure."

The event, which is planned for June 14, has been promised by UFC CEO Dana White to be one of the greatest fight cards in UFC history. The rumor mill has churned for months on end, but White has dismissed all speculation and reports and said matchmaking for the event formally will begin this week.

Ratner has been part of the UFC family for two decades and seen countless monumental and breakthrough moments for the company. Based on the anticipation he has felt first-hand and the walkthroughs he's seen on the logistical side, he knows this one is going to be special.

"When people ask me about the White House card, whether it's officials, whether it's fighters – everyone wants to fight on it," Ratner said. "That's natural. I say, 'That's Dana.' It's still five months away. June 14 is the date. I've seen at the White House where it's going to be on the lawn. I don't know how many seats will be there for that card."
