The Wimbledon 2025 men’s final couldn’t have been drawn up any better, with the number one seed, Jannik Sinner, and number two seed, Carlos Alcaraz, meeting for a rematch of the 2025 French Open finals.

At Roland-Garros, it was Alcaraz, 22, who came out on top, overcoming a two set deficit to beat the Italian in a thrilling five set match that extended five and a half hours.

At Wimbledon, it was Sinner’s turn.

After losing the first set during Sunday’s Wimbledon finals, Sinner, 23, dominated the next three, 6-4 6-4 6-4, to claim his first Wimbledon title and fourth major win. With his victory at Centre Court, Sinner also became the first Italian to win Wimbledon.

Following the trophy presentation and interviews, Sinner was led inside, where he was greeted by Prince William, Princess Catherine of Wales and two of their three children, Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 10. Sinner’s encounter with the royal family was broadcast live on ESPN, where commentators John McEnroe and Chris Fowler let the microphones capture the memorable moment.

Sinner shook hands with Princess Charlotte and then Prince George, who had two words for the newly crowned Wimbledon Champion: “Well played.”

ESPN Commentator Chris Fowler picked up on the adorable comment and repeated it, “‘Well played!’ he said,” to which John McEnroe added, “Well put!”

Sinner then went on to discuss tennis with Prince George, asking if the Prince played, and what kind of racket he used. “Yonex,” Prince George replied to which Sinner exclaimed “Ah, ok!”

While children typically are not permitted to attend Wimbledon from the Royal Box, Prince George and Princess Charlotte have long been exceptions to the rule. In 2023, People reported that the pair attended the men’s singles final from the prestigious seats reserved for royalty, which marked the young Princess’s first time at Wimbledon and the young Prince’s second.
