While the boxing dynasty of Eubank v Benn is to be the main event, heavyweight Tommy Welch also fights on the undercard with a famous father in his corner.

Scott Welch is a former British and Commonwealth champion, but his best-known fight was with Brad Pitt in Guy Ritchie's film Snatch.

His son, Tommy Welch, went to the same West Sussex school as Chris Eubank Jr, who also trained at the boxing gym Scott Welch runs in Hove, East Sussex.

Welch is fighting Richard Riakporhe on Saturday night, while Eubank Jr faces Conor Benn, whose fathers – Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank – fought in two world title contests in the 1990s.

"I crossed paths with Chris at school, and it was very relevant that our fathers were both ex-boxers, his being a bit more famous than mine," Welch said.

"But everyone still knew who my father was in this town, especially after Snatch. He became more of a film star after his boxing career."

His father had 26 professional fights, with 22 wins and four losses.

After retirement, he was cast in Snatch as Horace 'Good Night' Anderson, the fighter who punches Brad Pitt's character Mickey into the air in the film's most famous fight scene.

"I got the call, and they were looking for a big, ugly toad, and unfortunately I fitted the bill," Scott Welch said.

He said he was a childhood friend of Jason Statham having been to school in Great Yarmouth together, but added that he did not know he was going to be in the film until he arrived on set.

He now runs Brighton & Hove Amateur Boxing Club, which hosted Tyson Fury, Lennox Lewis and Chris Eubank.

Tommy Welch, who is 16 fights unbeaten, said his father's reputation meant being "the hardest working person in the gym", and admitted that fighting Riakporhe would be a step up.

Riakporhe, a 35-year-old former British cruiserweight champion, is moving up to heavyweight, but is favourite to win.

"At 35, this is a last hurrah for him. He's underestimated me, which he should. I'm a nobody, I haven't boxed anyone, I'm nothing in this game," Welch said.

"I've never gone past six rounds, and this is a 12-round fight. He's boxed for a world title, and I respect what he's done, I just don't rate him that much."

Scott Welch added: "It's a very tough fight. On paper we come second, but we love being the underdog and we're quietly confident in what we can do."

Despite his family heritage, Tommy Welch said it was "a privilege" to fight on the Eubank v Benn undercard.

"I've grown up with Eubank Jr and what a beautiful thing to be on the undercard of two legends," Welch said.

"Their fathers were ex-champions, these boys are fighting each other in front of the biggest crowd, and I get to go on this show as the third father-son combination.

"It's exciting and it's a bit of a give-back to the old man too. He will walk out with me to this fight, and we'll experience that together."
