Today in MMA history, Amanda Nunes becomes women's GOAT with Cyborg KO
Amanda Nunes already was a legend when she stepped in the cage against Cris Cyborg seven years ago.
When she left the cage, she was the GOAT.
At UFC 232 on Dec. 29, 2018, Nunes knocked out Cyborg in just 51 seconds at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., to win the women's featherweight title. She took the fight already as the women's bantamweight champion – and with wins over Ronda Rousey and Valentina Shevchenko – and became the first two-division women's champion in UFC history.
Before the fight, Cyborg was considered by many to be the women's GOAT. But by becoming a dual champion, and by adding Cyborg's name to the wins on her resume, Nunes took her place by just about every account.
Check out Nunes' stellar performance ahead of her return next month at UFC 324 (Paramount+), which takes place Jan. 24 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Women's 135-pound champion Kayla Harrison (19-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC), a two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo and two-time PFL champion, will welcome UFC Hall of Famer Nunes (23-5 MMA, 16-2 UFC) out of retirement after nearly three years.
