Two Longtime ESPN Announcers Are Out After 20-Plus Years
Two longtime ESPN announcers are officially out at the company after more than 20 years.
The Worldwide Leader in Sports announced on Tuesday its coverage teams for the upcoming Australian Open. Two longtime ESPN tennis announcers, Pam Shriver and Brad Gilbert, were not included in the announcement. They appear to be done at the company after more than 20 years. Both Shriver and Gilbert confirmed their exits from ESPN on social media.
Pam Shriver wrote on X: "Thanks for the 35+ amazing years. I recall AO 1990, after an early round loss, working for ESPN for the first time. I was prepared for more, but was told it was time to streamline. Meanwhile my thoughts are with Eaton & Palisades Fire victims on a tough 1 year anniversary."
Gilbert added: "Had a great π 23 year run πββοΈ."
Shriver and Gilbert, both longtime mainstays in the tennis community, had been calling matches for ESPN for more than 20 years.
The tennis world is saddened by ESPN's decision to part ties with them heading into the Australian Open.
ESPN officially announces its 2026 Australian Open team
The Worldwide Leader in Sports announced its coverage teams for the Australian Open this week.
"Katie George will serve as host during the first week of the tournament, with Malika Andrews as host for the second, including the championship weekend," ESPN announced.
"Calling the matches across ESPN networks will be a distinguished team of play-by-play voices including Chris Fowler, Chris McKendry, Patrick McEnroe, Jason Goodall and Mike Monaco. Match and studio analysis will be handled by an accomplished roster of former players including John McEnroe, Chris Evert, Caroline Wozniacki, Mary Joe Fernandez, James Blake, Sam Querrey, Chris Eubanks and CoCo Vandeweghe.
"Kris Budden will report from Melbourne Park, delivering on-site updates, interviews, and feature storytelling throughout the tournament."
The 2026 Australian Open will start on Monday, January 12.
