UFC Perth: Dominick Reyes redemption arc includes surprising new rematch with Jon Jones retired — ‘Dream come true’

Dominick Reyes spent the last five years campaigning for a Jon Jones rematch after his controversial loss to “Bones” atop the UFC 247 fight card in Houston. But by the time Reyes put together enough wins to become a contender again, Jones retired from UFC to avoid fighting heavyweight wrecking ball Tom Aspinall.

Now Reyes will shift his focus to another championship rematch, assuming all relevant chips fall into place.

“So I’m having my son in December,“ Reyes (15-4) told MMA Junkie. ”So best case, Alex [Pereira] wins, he’s a good friend of mine. I want him to win. And then he’ll rematch Jiri [Prochazka], and then Jiri wins, and then I rematch Jiri at the White House. I’m a big patriot, that would be a dream come true. Best case scenario in terms of narratives for the fight, right? The rematch with Jiri — that’s the fight. I don’t really want to fight Alex because he’s my friend. I’ll fight him, but I don’t really want to. [Magomed] Ankalaev, you know, I’ll fight the guy, whatever. Same with Khalil [Rountree Jr.], it’s like whatever, but I have no history or like, ‘I want to get that back’ kind of deal.“

Prochazka finished Reyes by way of spinning elbow at UFC Vegas 25.

Pereira is hoping to reclaim his title from Ankalaev when they rematch atop the UFC 320 fight card next month in Las Vegas. The winner is likely to make the next light heavyweight title defense at the UFC White House event on CBS in summer 2026. Reyes, 35, is hoping to add his name to this list of eligible superstars by stopping Carlos Ulberg in the UFC Perth main event this weekend in Australia.

As for Prochazka, he’s throwing down with Rountree Jr. on the UFC 320 main card.

“The Jiri fight was a great fight while it lasted,” Reyes added. “And I think we do it again, it’ll be another amazing fight. And I got nothing but respect for Jiri. Like, we’ve partied together. I mean, I believe it or not, we’ve gone out to the club and danced. He’s a cool dude, man. Everybody in the division is pretty cool; but, yeah, we’ll see what happens. All I know is I’ve been laser being focused on this fight and that’s really all I’m worried about to be completely honest with you. I guess next week I can give you a better breakdown on the main event and those fights and all that. But right now, I’m focused on this. I’m gonna get the win, and then we’ll see what happens.”
