Nick Kyrgios will be at the Australian Open.
But he will only be playing doubles, not singles.
The charismatic men's tennis player has had a rough go of it the last few years, and he announced the decision on Thursday.
Why isn't Nick Kyrgios playing singles at Australian Open?
Kyrgios isn't playing singles because he feels he isn't quite ready yet.
He's battled wrist and knee injuries the last three-plus years, and he hasn't been able to play enough matches to be in what he feels is the proper fitness for five-set matches.
Kyrgios wrote this on Instagram:
"I've made the call to focus on doubles for this year's AO. I'm fit and back on court, but 5-setters are a different beast and I'm not quite ready to go the distance yet. This tournament means everything to me, but I'd rather give my spot to someone who's ready to make their moment count. It's all building blocks and I'll be back next year and pumped to compete. See you out there."
Kyrgios is from Canberra, Australia, so he obviously values this tournament highly.
This year, he'll just have to make the most of it in the doubles bracket.
