Leylah Fernandez Apologizes to Rafael Nadal After an Adorable Video

Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez gave fans a delightful dose of her playful personality this week, posting a hilarious video to Instagram that quickly went viral for all the right reasons.

In the short clip, the 22-year-old WTA star can be seen participating in a light-hearted imitation game with her teammates. The rules were simple: draw a card, read the name of a tennis player, and imitate their on-court style or quirks — while the others guess who it is.

Things got off to a funny start when Fernandez drew her first card and, in a burst of excitement, blurted out the name “Carlos Alcaraz” before even attempting an imitation.

“Well,” she laughed, realizing she had accidentally spoiled the game. “Let’s pick another one!”

Not one to back down from fun, Fernandez quickly picked another card and gave it another go — this time keeping the name to herself. She then launched into an energetic and exaggerated service motion, and finally fidgeted with her shorts, giving the player away. The court erupted in laughter as her teammates immediately recognized the now-obvious name on the card: Rafael Nadal.

“I hope he doesn’t get upset with me,” said Fernandez with a guilty smile after the completion of the video. While Fernandez is known for her fiery competitiveness and fighting spirit on court, the video served as a reminder of her charisma and infectious energy off court.

After her early exit from Madrid Open, Fernandez chose to play the 125k event in Lleida, where she was the top seed. However, she lost to the Russian Aliaksandra Sasnovich in 3 sets. It remains to be seen if she makes it to Rome or not before heading to Paris.
