Boys tennis roundup: Cards pick up a win over Osakis

May 5—WILLMAR — The Willmar boys tennis team picked up its second win of the season on Monday.

Willmar swept the doubles matches to defeat Osakis 6-1. The Cardinals are 2-7.

All six of Willmar's victories came in straight sets, led by the No. 2 doubles pairing of senior Miguel Garcia and junior Nehemiah Van Horne. The duo lost the least amount of games for the Cardinals, winning 6-0 and 6-2 against Osakis' Brandon Anderson and Tucker Kreemer.

The Nos. 1 and 3 pairings of sophomore Lucas Riemersma and eighth-grader Camden Lager and sophomore Preston Kath and freshman Mason Munkholm also earned doubles wins.

Singles players who were victorious for Willmar were senior Ryan Newberg at No. 1, junior Carter Newberg at No. 2 and senior Jared Barrera at No. 4.

Osakis' sole point came from Drew VanNyhuis. The eighth-grader beat Willmar sophomore Sam Loerzel in a third-set tiebreak, winning 1-6, 6-4 and 10-4.

Willmar hosts Sartell for a Central Lakes Conference match at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Litchfield picked up its second win of the day at Fairmont.

The Dragons won three of the four singles matches and swept the doubles matches.

Two Litchfield singles players did not lose a game. Lincoln Dille won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 against Anthony Stegge and Andy Wittrock earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 against Zachary Ashland.

Litchfield hosts Delano at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The Dragons cruised to victory with a sweep at Blue Earth.

Lincoln Dille led Litchfield's singles. The junior won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 against Ryder Dutton.

For the Dragons' doubles, Matt Defries and Grayson Swenson won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 to defeat Eli Goshorn and Caleb Goshorn.
