Best Of The Best! ‘That Wasn’t The Best Idea’

ALF Reality – Instagram

Welcome, Maniacs! “This Week in MMAmania.com” is BACK.

As you know, MMAmania.com churns out a ridiculous amount of stories weekly. And if you don’t refresh this site constantly, you might just miss an amazing story. Or, if you don’t go read the comments section on each story, you might miss a wisecrack that will leave you LOL’ing.

But, don’t trip — we’ve got you covered. This weekly article will recap the best of MMAmania.com, reviewing the most-read stories, comments, social media posts, etc.

So, sit back and take a gander at the madness of the week that was …

Nate Diaz v Jorge Masvidal

Article of the Week

Last week, the story that attracted the most eyeballs here at MMAmania.com was Jon Jones reacting to Nate Diaz getting jumped by the cast of the knockoff Russian The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). And what “Bones” had to say in hindsight — “play-fighting with Nate was not the best idea” — certainly made sense.

MMAmania.com ‘Comment(s) of the Week:’

Dricus Du Plessis torched Khamzat Chimaev last week for calling his coaches fat, which is ironic because MMAmania.com user, Dread-Pirate-Roberts, pointed out:

Dread-Pirate-Roberts
Making fun of people's weight. Lucky Chimaev has never missed weight ……… oh wait!

Dricus is growing on me, big time. This is gonna be a hell of a scrap
Oh, and cyber-sniper

“Bones” is basically telling everyone he’s retired, but still won’t vacate his title. And MMAmania.com visitors are getting sick and tired of it:

Capt Murica
Cool then vacate the title and go the hell away.

STRIP THIS PRICK ALREADY.

Former PFL/TUF veteran, Tyler Diamond, has retired from MMA because he “doesn’t have the desire to fight for pennies,” which is totally respectable.

Our very own Andrew Richardson wrote something about his long-time teammate:

Andrew Richardson
Alright, I have an anecdote of the week for y'all.
Back somewhere around 2015/16, I'm heading up to Oroville to see the hometown boys Tyler Diamond and Benito Lopez fight in their local native American casino. Nobody is technically allowed in for free, but TD hand draws a map of how to evade security and get to the outdoor "locker rooms" behind the venue.
Consequently, the whole team is in the area, and any time one of our guys fight, we mob up and are all standing cageside. Fun fact about Oroville: it's a bit redneck and country (we have that in CA, believe it or not). Diamond fights an active US Air Force member and chucks him all over the cage. I can't remember if he finishes the fight or not, but he dominated. Afterward, he gives a nice speech thanking his opponent for his service and for taking the fight, and the crowd loves it.
Benito fights next and wins via flying knee in roughly eight seconds. Still to this day, Benito was able to "turn it on" in the cage better than almost anyone else I've met. His abilities in the gym vs. the cage were night and day.
After Benito's main event win, the crowd attacks Diamond's opponent backstage for the crime of being black in Oroville. Several TAM members help pull apart the ruckus, and that was about that.
Anyway — Diamond and Benito are great folks and skilled fighters, glad they got their chance in the Octagon. I made my professional debut the same night Diamond fought Bryce Mitchell, and the judges robbed him! Who knows what could have been …

Throwback MMA Mania ‘Tweet of the Week:’

Boy oh boy, Julian Marquez sure fumbled this one and paid for it by losing and losing and losing …

‘Fan-Tweet of the Week:’

Jon Jones is getting criticized online for not fightingTom Aspinall (rightfully so), but dissecting his early Light Heavyweight title reign is going too far?

Fighter ‘Comment of the Week:’

Belal Muhammad admitted he went against his gameplan for UFC 315, which he probably did a little bit, but not giving “JDM” props for his takedown defense is lame.
