With the 2025 Wimbledon Championships in the rearview mirror, Katie Boulter is taking a well-deserved vacation.
Boulter, the No. 41 ranked player on the WTA Tour, has been going through a rough patch on the court. During the 2025 French Open, she shared screenshots of gamblers wishing death on her. She revealed that it wasn’t a rare occurence. This has happened before to her and other women’s tennis players.
“It becomes more apparent every single time you go on your phone,” Boulter told the BBC. “I think it just kind of shows how vulnerable we are, you really don’t know if this person is on site, if they’re nearby or if they know where you live or anything like that. As far as death threats, it’s just not something you want to be reading straight after an emotional loss. A lot of the time you get it after you win as well.”
Unfortunately for Boulter, she received even more nasty messages following her loss to qualifier Solana Sierra during the second round at Wimbledon. Some of her fans tried their best to lift her up amid all the noise.
“The hate comments on this post disgust me. Sad, sad people. Thank you Katie for inspiring millions,” a fan said.
“It just wasn’t your day today but stay strong girl and come back fighting. You have great spirit and soul,” another fan wrote.
At the moment, Boulter seems unbothered by all the negativity. Over the past few days, she has shared a handful of photos from Florence, Italy.
“Fallen for Florence,” Boulter wrote for one of her captions.
Several tennis fans praised Boulter for ignoring her critics and taking herself on vacation.
Boulter, 28, is expected to compete at the US Open in August. She has never made it past the third round in any major tournament.
Perhaps this will be the year that Boulter breaks through and makes a deep run on the hard court.
The US Open will begin on Aug. 24 and run through Sept. 7.
