EDN THURSDAY PREP ROUNDUP: Ochs cards an ace for Newton at Indian Springs; Swingler, Wyckoff help Effingham boys golf to second-place finish at Taylorville Invitational

TAYLORVILLE, Ill. — The Effingham Flaming Hearts boys golf team finished second at the Taylorville Invitational at Lakeshore Golf Course on Thursday.

Mt. Zion won the event with a final score of 309. The Flaming Hearts and Williamsville both finished with a score of 315. EHS finished second on a tiebreaker.

Jack Swingler finished sixth overall with a round of 76. Leo Wyckoff was ninth overall with a 79. Brody Boehm also shot a 79 and Jude Traub shot an 80.

Cannon Bockhorn’s 82 was the difference in the tiebreaker.

The scores that didn’t count toward the team total were Allyn Koester’s 102 and Owen Nuxoll’s 105.

COED GOLF

at Robinson … Kennedy Jones finished with a nine-hole score of 41 and was the low medalist for North Clay at Oak Glen Golf Course in Robinson.

Mackenzie Winterrowd tied for second place with a 55 and Jacob Arnold shot a 54 on the boys side.

GIRLS GOLF

at Fillmore … The Teutopolis Lady Shoes fell to Edwardsville at Indian Springs Golf Course in Fillmore.

The Lady Shoes fired a team score of 366. Edwardsville won with a 356.

Brileigh Bloemer shot a 90 for T-Town. Molly Habing fired a 93. Josie Willenborg shot a 95 and Brooke Thoele shot a 98.

Those who didn’t count toward the team total were Adrienne Koester and Ellie Hoene (105, each), Halle Bushue (109), Alyssa Tipton (113), Brooke Tipton (114), Ella Hemmen (125), Tinley Niebrugge (128), Keagyn Runde (134) and Megan Blackwell (135).

Newton’s Haley Ochs shot an 88, highlighted by a hole-in-one on the par-3 ninth, while Peyton Lindley fired a 90.

“It was a longer par-3, so I decided to hit a 5-hybrid,” said Ochs of her ace. “It looked like a decent shot and I watched it roll onto the green all the way in. I couldn’t believe it.

“I dropped my club and celebrated with Molly and Rachel (Johnson). Never in my life would I ever have guessed I’d get a hole-in-one.”
