Girls tennis roundup: No. 4 Litchfield handles NLS
Sep. 11—NEW LONDON — The Litchfield girls tennis team earned its fourth win of the week on Thursday night.
Litchfield, ranked fourth in Class A, swept New London-Spicer, 7-0. The Dragons have also beaten Holy Family Catholic, Osakis and Westonka since Monday. Litchfield is 14-4 overall.
Isla Dille, ranked fourth among Class A individuals, led the way for the Dragons. The junior lost one game in her 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles against Erin Pederson.
A pair of matches went into third sets.
Elly Woelfel and Marcella Bruning earned a 7-6, 0-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles against Emma Friedel and Brooke Glauvitz. The Dragons also got a win at No. 2 doubles. Brynn Nagel and Elise Carlson defeated Heidi Taunton and Averie Turner 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Litchfield plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Annandale. NLS plays at 4 p.m. Monday at Hutchinson.
MACCRAY/Renville County West played Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd much tougher than what the final score represented at Madison.
LQPV/DB won three of its six matches in three sets. The closest came at No. 3 doubles where Kenna McTighe and Riley Clark earned a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over MACCRAY/RCW's Maggie Burnett and Cecelia Morris.
LQPV/DB hosts Milbank, South Dakota at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Madison. MACCRAY/RCW plays Yellow Medicine East at 4 p.m. Friday at Granite Falls.
Minnewaska won all seven matches in straight sets, winning by a combined score of 84-8, at Melrose.
The Lakers are ranked second in the state in Class A.
Minnewaska hosts Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood.
Yellow Medicine East swept singles and won at No. 2 doubles in a match that featured three three-set matches at Granite Falls.
In singles, the Sting's Abigail Jimenez beat Madelyn Peterson 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 4. At No. 1 doubles, the Mainstreeters' Keely Klein and Abi Anderson-Nyhus defeated Breea Johnson and Brooklynn Howe 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Sauk Centre also won at No. 3 doubles. Gayle Weber and Alexis Clark edged Reagan Streich/Annelise Jahn 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 6-3.
YME has a make-up match at 4 p.m. Friday against MACCRAY/Renville County West in Granite Falls.
