Josh Hokit says Chael Sonnen has been 'reincarnated inside' him after UFC Vegas 111
LAS VEGAS – Josh Hokit met the media Saturday after his win over Max Gimenis at UFC Fight Night 264.
Hokit (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) needed less than a minute to take out Gimenis (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in each of their promotional debuts on the prelims at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Hokit was more than a 4-1 betting favorite, making the result largely expected.
Still, he was given a $ 50,000 performance bonus for the quick knockout, which preceded a well-rehearsed WWE-style eventual callout of Valter Walker, the recent UFC heavyweight heel hook sensation.
A religious man, Hokit delved into a tenet of many faiths: reincarnation. Granted, the person he referenced being now inside him still is living. But it's the thought that counts sometimes, and that thought for Hokit is he's comfortable making a name on the mic, as well as on the mat, the way Chael Sonnen used to do.
"'The Bad Guy' is reincarnated inside of a dad-bod heavyweight. It is what it is. Shout out to the 'Bad Guy,' Chael Sonnen," Hokit said. "… If they're offended by (my talk), I don't want them as fans."
