Jake Paul: Anthony Joshua has to 'kill me to stop me'
People are saying Jake Paul is crazy to be fighting Anthony Joshua next month. Can you blame them?
Paul is a massive underdog heading into his showdown against Joshua, who’s opened as a -1200 favorite to win, and it’s no secret why. Paul is a YouTuber-turned-boxer whose career has been built off beating aging former UFC fighters – Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, and Mike Perry – and an over-the-hill boxer in Julio Cesar Chavez Jr this past June.
Joshua, a former boxing heavyweight champion still considered elite, is neither of those things. And on top of that, he has an obviously huge size advantage over Paul, which was on display during their first faceoff at Friday’s press conference in Miami.
Despite that, Paul believes he has a good chance to beat Joshua and expressed just how willing he is to risk it all.
“This is gonna be fun,” Paul said. “I want him to cut me up, I want him to break my face, but guess what? He’s gonna have to kill me to stop me, and I’m ready to die – seriously ready to die in the ring to win this fight.”
For his part, Joshua is intent on delivering a beatdown.
“If I’m gonna be honest, I’m gonna break his face, I’m gonna break his body up, I’m gonna stomp all over him,” Joshua said. “That’s my mentality. That’s a fighter’s mentality, and I know what’s in my heart, I know what’s in my mind, and I’m here to compete.”
Paul vs. Joshua is set to headline a Netflix boxing event Dec. 19 from Kaseya Center in Miami. Fans can watch with a Netflix subscription plan at no additional pay-per-view cost.
