Danielle Collins absent from Australian Open entry list — one year after clashing with fans
It seems there won’t be a rematch between American Danielle Collins and Australian Open fans at the upcoming tournament.
The No. 64-ranked player in the world was not included on the women’s singles entry list on the Australian Open’s website Tuesday for the first Grand Slam of 2026, noting Collins and Ons Jabeur — who is currently on maternity leave — “will miss the tournament.”
Collins, a 2022 Australian Open finalist, reached the third round of last year’s tournament, where she lost to compatriot and eventual champion Madison Keys.
Before that match, the 31-year-old Collins made headlines after she knocked off Australia’s Destanee Aiava in the second round and rubbed the triumph in the faces of the pro-Melbourne crowd.
Upon sealing the victory, Collins blew kisses to the fiery crowd and patted her butt sarcastically.
“I loved it,” Collins said of the scene afterward, according to The Tennis Letter. “I’ve been doing this my whole life and I love playing in a crowd that has energy, regardless of what side they’re on, and I’m somebody too, like, it kind of just motivates me even more, so it’s kind of a good thing, especially when I’m not playing that well. I think it really helped me in the end, and just helped me concentrate more and challenged me at times, and yeah, pushed me kind of through the finish line.”
Collins initially revealed the 2024 season would be her last but reversed course, expanding on health challenges with endometriosis and fertility in an October Instagram post from that year.
The Australian Open runs from Jan. 12 to Feb. 1.
