Pickleball's Daytona Beach Open semifinals lined up | UPDATE

This story has been updated following Friday’s doubles play.

HOLLY HILL — The PPA Tour’s Daytona Beach Open rolls into Saturday’s semifinals at Pictona with four remaining competitors in all five divisions.

Among them is the women’s top-seeded doubles team of Jorja Johnson and World No. 1 Anna Leigh Waters, who didn’t give up more than six points in a game during three Friday wins to reach the semis. The Waters-Johnson pairing is a one-off, since Waters’ usual doubles partner Anna Bright isn’t in the field this week. A win in Saturday semis would see them face either the No. 2 or 3 seed in Sunday’s finals.

Here are the semifinal fields in a divisions heading into the weekend:

Anna Leigh Waters, the world's top-ranked woman player, is focused solely on women's doubles this week and hopes to reach Saturday's semifinals with partner Jorja Johnson.

Women’s Singles

One of the semifinal matches features a pair of deep seeds: Katerina Stewart (40th seed) versus Isabella Dunlap (18).

The other semi is no surprise at all, featuring second-seeded Lea Jansen against three-seed Catherine Parenteau. They are ranked sixth and seventh in the PPA Tour’s season-long point standings in doubles.

Men’s Singles

The men’s semifinals feature three players seeded in the top 10:

Zane Ford (9) versus Christopher Haworth (4), and Gabriel Joseph (5) versus Rafael Lenhard (28). Lenhard is coming off a three-game quarterfinal upset of the PPA Tour’s top-ranked singles players, Federico Staksrud, winning the deciding third game 12-10.

Mixed Doubles

With the superstar team of Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns not competing, all eyes turn toward the tour’s second best mixed team, the brother-sister duo of JW and Jorja Johnson. That top-seeded twosome gets no Saturday cakewalk in the semis, facing third-seeded Gabriel Tardio and Jessie Irvine.

In the other semi, Andre Daescu and Kaitlyn Christian (6 seed) face Jay Devilliers and Callie Smith (11).

Women’s Doubles

The four top seeds reached the semifinals. Waters and Johnson (1) face fourth-seed Tina Pisnik and Meghan Dizon, while Catherine Parenteau and Tyra Hurricane Black (2) play Rachel Rohrabacher and Etta Tuionetoa.

Men’s Doubles

Riley Newman and Noe Khlif (7 seed) face CJ Klinger and Jaume Martinez Vich (4) in one semi, while Eric Oncins and Dylan Frazier (5) play Augustus Ge and JW Johnson (3) in the other.

Saturday-Sunday at Pictona

Saturday’s semifinal play begins at 10 a.m., while the Pickleball TV broadcast starting at 11. The Tennis Channel will also broadcast the weekend, beginning at 3:30 Saturday afternoon and 2:30 on Championship Sunday.
