Dana White on UFC 324 main card commercials backlash: 'It's $8.99'
Dana White won't get too worked up about fan complaints regarding the high number of commercials throughout the UFC 324 main card broadcast, some of which covered up fighter walkouts and corner work.
With the first numbered event of the promotion's new U.S. rights agreement with Paramount+, the cost to watch UFC 324 was slashed significantly and available to anyone with a basic subscription to the streaming platform, which starts at $ 8.99 per month.
White was asked about the commercials at the UFC 324 post-fight press conference, and although he admitted he still hasn't been able to fully review the experience for those watching from home, he immediately used the price as a justification.
"I haven't seen it yet and all of this is a work in progress," White told MMA Junkie and other reporters. "It's $ 8.99. You're not paying f*cking however much anymore. These guys (at Paramount have) got to make some money, too, so yeah."
When asked about whether adjustments could be made going forward, White said that will ultimately fall on the decision-makers at Paramount and CBS. However, he did tout the strength of the partnership as an indicator that feedback would be accepted.
"That is a fact (that they paid for it and get to decide) – let's start there," White said. "But these guys are incredible to work with already, so we'll figure it out."
While commercials during UFC broadcast prelims and Fight Night main cards are an obvious inclusion, the promotion's former pay-per-views – now numbered events like UFC 324 – used to have main cards that were commercial-free and included fighter walkouts and other elements that were replaced with commercials Saturday, just like any other live broadcast event. UFC pay-per-views used to cost $ 79.99, and there were 14 a year.
