Piera Rodriguez has another rematch in mind after UFC Vegas 114
LAS VEGAS – Piera Rodriguez met the media Saturday after her win over Sam Hughes at UFC Fight Night 269.
Rodriguez (12-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) was dominant in her control of Hughes (11-7 MMA, 6-6 UFC) to open the prelims at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas and swept the judges' scorecards for a unanimous decision.
The fight was a rematch of one she won in her second fight in the UFC in 2022. The result was the same this time, but she felt like she was a different fighter.
"I feel like a completely new fighter," Rodriguez told MMA Junkie at her post-fight news conference. "I feel like I improved so many things. I still have so many things to keep improving, and every day I'm working my ass (off) to get better at every aspect of fighting. Every time I get in the octagon, you will see a. new version of Piera – that's the idea.
"One of the things I didn't like from the first match we had, I was just trying to touch and score," Rodriguez said. "… In the first match, I didn't want to risk too much in the fight because I was new in the UFC. I was trying to keep it cool and not risk too much. But now, I'm in a different position, and I don't give a f*ck if I win or lose . I just want to let it go and I just want to be myself."
Now Rodriguez is hoping for another rematch.
"I have four names in my mind for quite some time," Rodriguez said. "I'm trying to put my claws into some of these people, but they keep running away. These girls need to understand if you're going to have a standing in teh top 15, you've got to earn it and you've got to keep it and you've got to fight for it. You've got to maintain your position by fighting."
"Angela Hill, Lupita Godinez, Denise Gomes and Gillian Robertson," Rodriguez said. "Gillian Robertson took my 0 away, so I need to get that back."
