The official 2026 Roland Garros poster has been released & fans have lots of questions

The second Grand Slam of the tennis season: Roland Garros, also known as the French Open, begins on May 18.

To get fans hyped, the tournament released the official poster. This is the 47th year Roland Garros is releasing an official poster. JR, an internationally known French artist and tennis fan, was tasked with creating the 2026 version.

Initial reception from fans on social media was not good. After deeming it weird and creepy, fans had a lot more to say about it.

The biggest fan complaint is that there is no tennis racquet or ball.

One fan compared it to the poster for a Summer 2026 Steven Spielberg movie.

Another fan felt that the 1990s Roland Garros posters looked better.

Other fans just wanted to understand what the poster is supposed to represent.

Perhaps Roland Garros anticipated this question. The tournament produced a YouTube video with JR narrating his thought and artistic process.

There was also chatter among fans about how unpleasant it feels when clay is near the eye, and why the tournament would approve such an unusual idea.

Is the person supposed to be Rafael Nadal?

Another big discussion point was if the person spreading the clay is supposed to be Rafael Nadal. Many saw a resemblance.

Nadal has his own statue on the grounds of Roland Garros and a plaque of his footprint on Court Philippe-Chatrier. His 14 French Open titles is believed to be a feat that no tennis player will ever match.

No one understood why Nadal’s likeness would be used in this manner.
