Coco Gauff’s hilarious press conference moment steals spotlight
Gauff’s on-court dominance was followed by a memorable moment in her post-match press conference that quickly caught attention.
A reporter asked her about a term used among male players to describe one-sided rivalries.
He questioned: “On the ATP side, a lot of the guys, especially American guys, have this term they use for when you beat someone three times in a row, or he beats you three times in a row. You know what I’m talking about? You become their dad.”
Gauff immediately pushed back with a smile, saying: “No, say what they actually said”
“Daddy?” the journalist responded, prompting laughter from the room as Gauff confirmed it.
She was then asked whether a similar term exists in the women’s game, answering: “I don’t think so. I mean, Iga beat me so many times in a row, so I don’t want her to be considered my dad. But then I was able to reverse it, so now we’re both each other’s daddies? I don’t know.”
Gauff continued the light-hearted exchange as she searched for an alternative.
“But yeah, I don’t think there’s a term, as far as I know, among the women. Mama? I don’t think ‘daddy’ is the term. I don’t think ‘mommy’ is the term either. Dominatrix [laughs]? I don’t know. But I don’t want a term, because I know I have some matches where I’m on the losing end of that, too.”
The interaction highlights how her mood shifted since that Australian Open outburst. Now she is heading to a final and cannot hide her smile.
