Coco Gauff Is Fed Up With Behavior Of U.S. Sports Fans
Coco Gauff isn't happy.
The 22-year-old American tennis phenom, who has two major titles at the 2023 US Open and 2025 French Open, is currently playing in the Madrid Open. Gauff, last year's French Open champion, lost in the Round of 16 on Monday. She fell in three sets to No. 13 seed Linda Noskova.
Gauff, who battled some injuries during her Round of 16 loss, called out "angry" and "racist" sports fans, who had bet on her to win.
She called them out on social media: "@ the angry gamblers saying racist things in my IG comments/dms hiding behind anonymous accounts."
Gauff included lyrics to a song from rapper Young M.A. The lyrics played by Gauff stated: "Yeah they hate, but they broke though (But they broke though) / And when it's time to pop, they a no-show (Where they at?)"
As sports gambling has continued to surge in popularity in the United States, with the legalization of it in nearly every state, some fans have often taken things way too far on social media.
Fans who placed bets on certain athletes or certain teams lose money – a decision they made on their own – and then decide to blame the athletes or the teams for their monetary loss.
Athletes in individual sports probably have it the hardest, as they only have themselves to deal with.
Gauff certainly isn't alone in feeling this way. You have to respect her for calling the fans out on social media.
