Arman Tsarukyan: I don't know why Dana White 'speaks ill of me'
Arman Tsarukyan isn’t quite sure why UFC CEO Dana White continues to take issue with him.
Tsarukyan (23-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) was snubbed out of the interim lightweight title picture when the promotion opted to book Justin Gaethje against Paddy Pimblett at UFC 324. With Gaethje winning, he will now unify his belt with lightweight champion Ilia Topuria in the UFC Freedom 250 headliner on June 14.
White initially wasn’t happy with Tsarukyan pulling out of his title fight against Islam Makhachev just one day before UFC 311. Tsarukyan also headbutted Dan Hooker at the weigh-ins prior to their fight at UFC Fight Night 265, which he won by Round 1 submission. White was recently asked about Tsarukyan at the UFC 326 post-fight press conference, where he said he still wasn’t thrilled with him.
“I don’t know why Dana speaks ill of me, but I have no problem with them or any behind-the-scenes issues,” Tsarukyan said in a translated interview with Red Corner MMA. “There’s no point in addressing him because I don’t negotiate with him.
“I’m in talks with Hunter (Campbell) because he’s in charge of matchmaking. Dana probably just approves everything related to fights. The actual matchmakers are Sean Shelby and Hunter, so I’ve got nothing to say to Dana. I need to ask Hunter for a fight, and we talked this morning, and he gave me a date for my next fight.”
Speaking to the JAXXON Podcast prior to UFC 326 taking place, Tsarukyan revealed that the promotion plans on giving him the winner of Topuria vs. Gaethje, but he’s willing to take another fight if he’s forced to wait for too long.
