Barstool Sports host weighs in on Internet Invitational villain Luke Kwon
The most talked-about tournament in golf at the moment has nothing to do with the PGA Tour or LIV. Instead, it’s an online spectacle featuring dozens of the game’s biggest influencers. The tournament was filmed months ago and is currently being released one episode at a time on YouTube.
“Golf is this incredible vehicle for entertainment,” Barstool Sports “Fore Play” podcast host Sam “Riggs” Bozoian said on this week’s episode of Subpar. “That’s why YouTube golf exists. It’s not just to see good golf shots.”
Case in point: The above-mentioned Internet Invitational, a made-for-You-Tube tournament hosted by Barstool Sports and Bob Does Sports, which features 48 personalities competing for a $ 1 million grand prize. The tournament has been an immediate hit, racking up millions of views online as soon as each episode posts – despite the fact that the episodes are lengthy, with Episode 1 clocking in at nearly four hours long.
Part of the tournament’s allure? A villain’s sudden emergence in Episode 1. (GOLF’s Dylan Dether provided an excellent breakdown of the situation here, but in short: competitor Luke Kwon missed his tee time, which upset his teammates, and Kwon exhibited zero remorse. Shocking!)
‘Internet Invitational’ produces jaw-dropping villain – and millions of views
What does Bozoian, who captained one of the Internet Invitational teams, make of the reaction to Kwon? He shared his take with Subpar hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz in studio.
“It’s funny because when we were looking back, after we finished, we’re all happy. We all thought it went well,” Bozoian said. “We all thought the drama was crazy. And looking back, I didn’t even think about the Luke Kwon situation. That’s how many other things happened and like, how good it gets. It didn’t even occur to me.
“I was the captain of the opposing team, so I was already happy that he slept in and I already said thank you to him, but I would go up to him again and be like, the best thing that happened was you sleeping in,” he continued. “It took over the internet. It sucks for him. And, like kind of a crazy amount of piling on for someone that just slept in. So I honestly feel bad for Luke Kwon to a degree, and he could have handled it better afterwards.

“We all could handle sh– better in our whole lives, so whatever. But for him to then go to like, this super villain because he just like slept in and then wasn’t overly apologetic, it’s like probably not worth how much sh– he’s gotten.”
Bozoian said the criticism Kwon received often comes with the territory when Barstool is involved.
“We will call you out for your bullsh–,” he said. “We will hold everybody accountable and people will like, gravitate towards conflict. It’s sort of how Barstool operates.”
