This Past Week in MMA History:
UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes – Jan. 14, 2012
In the main event of UFC 142, Jose Aldo knocked out Chad Mendes with a brutal knee and then gave us one of the most iconic post-fight celebrations of all time when he jumped into the Rio de Janeiro crowd.
UFC 142 also had one of the best knockouts of all time.
UFC St. Louis: Stephens vs. Choi – Jan. 14, 2018
I’m not going to lie, I totally forgot that Jeremy Stephens and Doo-ho Choi fought in 2018 — but after rewatching the fight, it was a banger for as long as it lasted. (Stephens stopped him in the second round).
UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs. Penn – Jan. 15, 2017
For some reason, UFC booked Yair Rodriguez vs. B.J. Penn … after Penn came back from a three-year retirement. It did not go well for Penn.

Luke Rockhold may have lost his highly anticipated UFC debut, but eight months later, he scored his first promotional win by stopping Costas Philippou — remember him?
UFC on ABC 1: Holloway vs. Kattar – Jan. 16, 2021
In 2021, UFC on ABC: Holloway vs. Kattar made history as the first mixed martial arts event ever broadcast live on ABC network television — and the card delivered, especially the main event, as Max Holloway absolutely styled on Calvin Kattar for five rounds.
Ultimate Fight Night 3 – Jan. 16, 2006
Before Jorge Masvidal broke the UFC record for fastest knockout of all time, Duane Ludwig held on to that record since 2006 when he knocked out Jonathan Goulet in six seconds.
